Nice Tramway Update

We have more information on the Nice Tramway, following our Saturday visit to the town.

The grand opening is scheduled for Monday, 26 November 2007 - just one month away. The tramway ticket office is not where we thought it was. The tramway will be part of the Nice bus system, and the information and ticket office is at 3 Place Masséna, on the western side of the Place Masséna, under the arches. The standard ticket price is 1.30 euros, for any distance.

The little office we had found at the lower end of the Place, below the fountain, was marked "Nice Tramway", and the shop hours were (and are) listed in the window. But that was a ghost office at #8 Place Masséna. It seems that the even-numbers are on this lower side of the Place, and the odd-numbers, including #3 of the "real" ticket office, are a couple of hundred meters away on the opposite side of the Place.

In the "real" ticket office, when we asked what the ticket price would be for the tramway, we were told "the same as before". Not, it turns out, the same as the 1920s Nice tramway price, but the same as the bus ticket price - 1.30 euros.

We've added a couple of new Nice Tramway photos (photo-6, photo-7) , from near the Place Garibaldi.
